L'Histoire
SONNI I
Origin
"Le Fondateur" takes its name from the Sonni dynasty of the Songhai Empire, rulers who understood that authority is worn, not announced. The jacket begins there: a silhouette built for a room to go quiet when someone enters it.

Material
Linen, denim, and reconfigured textiles brought together through upcycling, nothing here was woven for this jacket alone. The material already had a life before this one.

Symbol
The braids running across the shoulders serve as a tribute to the African woman, and suggest the burden of authority and heritage carried upon the shoulders.

Craft
Every braid, chain, and hardware detail is placed and finished by hand in the atelier, no two constructions, were there to be more than one, would read the same way.

Movement
Worn open or closed, the jacket carries its weight differently, armor and drapery in the same construction. That duality is the entire premise of the piece.
